Transparency Act
Due Diligence Assessments in accordance with the Norwegian Transparency Act – Bergen Seafood AS
Bergen Seafood AS conducts annual due diligence assessments and publishes a statement in accordance with the Norwegian Transparency Act.
The company is a Norwegian seafood exporter specializing in the trade of fish and fish products. Bergen Seafood AS is owned by Norwegian shareholders and is managed by a Board of Directors and a Managing Director. Two of the owners are actively involved in the day-to-day operations.
Approximately 99% of the fish is purchased from responsible Norwegian suppliers. Our customers mainly consist of importers, producers and distributors in Europe, North America and Asia.
Bergen Seafood is committed to responsible business conduct. In accordance with the Norwegian Transparency Act, we carry out ongoing assessments to identify risks of adverse impacts on human rights and decent working conditions, and we implement necessary measures where required. The Act is based on the OECD Guidelines and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The requirements can be divided into six main areas:
1. Embedding responsible business conduct in policies
The company’s internal guidelines include procedures for risk mapping, mitigation measures, communication and remediation. These guidelines have been approved by the Board of Directors and communicated both internally and externally. A dedicated resource is responsible for supplier follow-up, while the Managing Director holds overall responsibility.
2. Risk mapping and assessment
We assess risks both within our own operations and throughout the supply chain. The risk of adverse impacts is considered low within our own operations and moderate to high in parts of the transport sector. Particularly high risk has been identified among European transport providers outside the Nordic region and in cases involving the use of subcontractors.
Suppliers are assessed based on country risk, corruption index, contract value and our ability to influence. A methodology for assessing new business partners has been established.
3. Measures in response to identified risk
Where indications of adverse impacts are identified, suppliers are required to provide documentation. Failure to provide satisfactory documentation may lead to consequences, including termination of contract in serious cases.
An Ethics Declaration is actively used to prevent risk, and requirements related to responsible business conduct are integrated into contracts.
4. Follow-up
Suppliers are followed up when necessary, and deviations are systematically recorded.
5. Communication
We emphasize transparency and dialogue. Requests for information are answered within three weeks via info@bergen-seafood.no.
6. Remediation
If adverse impacts are identified, we will work with our suppliers to help remedy the harm. No such cases have been registered to date.
